About Calligraphy by Melanie

IMGP0474Melanie has been providing professional calligraphy since 1988. She learned this art form through years of professional study with highly regarded artists through The New School for Social Research (parent school to Parsons School of Design) in New York City, The School of Sacred Arts in New York City, as well as privately and through professional societies. This form of calligraphy is considered to be more difficult and time consuming than other styles. In addition, for envelopes, Melanie centers one line below the other on many of the addresses. Centering is more time consuming but it is a beautiful design format. For the addresses that are not centered, Melanie uses a staggered format which is also a very decorative option. If you would like a custom invitation, she can draw the body of an invitation in calligraphy for reproduction.

You can choose the style from one of the samples or you can match the font from your invitation or other source if it can be done with, “pointed pen.”

Other popular calligraphy projects are escort cards, place cards, vows, poems, prayers, programs, menus, letters, book inscriptions and the personalization of ornaments, frames and gifts. Calligraphy can be done on a variety of surfaces. Baseballs, sand dollars, wooden slices of a branch, pottery, and ornaments are some of the surfaces I have experience with. The calligraphy will last a very long time on these surfaces. A variety of colors are also possible.

Elegant hand calligraphy will enhance the look and feel of your invitation and event.  So, please call to discuss your favorite styles, time frame, and prices.
